Popular single-cell technologies are all obtaining and analyzing snapshot-type data. We would like to shift the paradigm and start looking into the dynamic evolution of signaling activities from the same set of single cells. We name this new field of study
Why do we need to resolve the dynamics
The snapshot-type single-cell analysis may not provide the correct information. The endpoint signaling activity does not adequately reflect the drug response. Consequently, the obtained data could be misinterpreted, as demonstrated below.
We develop chemical probes that can specifically recognize different protein epitopes, including those responsible for signal transduction. When combined with the FRET approach, we can continuously assess the signaling activities. We can further implement such technology on well-established platforms to achieve single-cell resolution.
